Distractions play a major part in car accidents

Allstate recently held a parent-teen driving day in Chicago. The focus was to increase awareness for both parents and teen drivers about the challenge of driving whilst distracted. The advanced driving course took drivers through a series of obstacles while increasing the distractions in the car. Drivers were faced with noisy passengers, texting and cell phone calls.

In all instances both the parents and the teens failed to avoid the obstructions on the course when the distractions were in play. Some even veered off the course.

Driving today is completely different than just a few years ago," said Alice Byrne, Field Vice President for Allstate's Midwest Region. "With cell phones, MP3 players and other smart devices, we are constantly multi-tasking, but it shouldn't be done while driving.
