On December 30, 2009 Sandra Kilde died. It was the day after her birthday and she lost her life when another woman, who had been drinking, hit her head on. Though Kilde died instantly, the other driver died shortly thereafter, leaving her 7 year old child without a mother.

This tragic event destroyed the lives of two families. However, it may not have been completely in vain. The Bismarck Department of Transportation is currently running a PSA about the incident in order to raise awareness about the dangers of driving under the influence.

It is vital that people become aware of the dangers of driving under the influence. Each year around 16,000 people lose their lives due to drunk drivers. This is a serious issue that has to be addressed.

According to officials in Bismarck the PSA is garnering quite a bit of attention. Even the edition that is uploaded to the DOT facebook page has gotten several hits. Hopefully, the real life events that occurred in this town last winter will help to stop at least a few people from picking up the keys after a few too many drinks.

Cars are important to most people. Almost everyone you know owns some kind of automobile, and many people treat them with almost as much reverence and affection as they do pets. It's easy to think of autos as toys, with their fancy colors, custom features, and stylish looks. Driving a sports car is the fantasy of young people everywhere.

Cars and trucks are different than toys in that autos are useful, transporting people wherever they need to go. Also, it's more serious when they break. Most people can't go out and buy a new one. Vehicles are serious tools, too, and can be dangerous. That's why people must pass a test before they're allowed to drive. You have to share the road, and it's important to know that everyone knows how to drive responsibly.

Autos are expensive, and in some locales, people rely on public transportation or carpooling instead of their own vehicle. Many people who do own cars buy them used, as most are well-designed and will keep running long after the current owner is done with the car.

It takes thousands of dollars to buy an auto outright, something that the average Joe or Jill doesn't have on hand. So, there are ways to deal with this lack of cash. People can take out a loan and make payments over time, rather than paying all at once. These loans charge interest on what remains to be paid. Interest rates vary, so it's in the customer's best interest to shop around and find the lowest rate. It's possible to get a refinance car loan if you find a better rate after taking out a loan. In that case, the customer takes out a second loan at the lower rate and then uses the money to pay off the first loan. In this way, people are able to buy their own vehicle.

The skyscrapers, the information overload, the lights, the smells, the sounds. The sounds? Well, maybe they're part of the overall feel of the Big Apple, but certainly, no one can say the wailing of a car horn is pleasant. While some states vary in their laws, one state has a definite rule about having auto insurance. New York. This state is set on making sure that drivers in the small proximity have what it takes to stay safe. Coverage for themselves is necessary, as well as coverage to protect other drivers.

Auto insurance New York isn't a new concept. In fact, New Yorkers have had auto insurance for over fifty years. It's the idea that rules of the road sometimes change, driver qualification changes, and of course, prices fluctuate from time to time. The right type of auto insurance completely depends on the kind of driver you are, the type of auto history you have, and the kind of coverage that you want. It can also depend on the type of car you drive. You'll find almost every type of car in New York from beaters that rattle down the road to smooth-sounding electronic cars powered by batteries. Sports cars and more expensive autos will cost you more to insure, because they typically cost more to replace.

There are many factors you might want to consider when you look at buying a car. What's the gas mileage like? What does the car say about your image or social class? Will the car increase or decrease your insurance premium? You may need a city car that gets good gas mileage in town and another car for weekend fun outside the city. Whatever your situation, you can find an insurance policy to protect your investment.

How to Minimize a Car Accident

How to Minimize a Car Accident

Avoiding car accidents needs to be every driver's number one priority. Most of us take great care to prevent them from happening. But what should you do if an accident is imminent? Take these following precautions:

1. Respond quickly and smoothly. Don't slam your brakes.

2. Use a combination of controlled steering, light braking and careful accelerating to avoid or minimize damage.

3. Brake -- but with control. Do you have antilock brakes? Don't pump them! You'll feel the pedal vibrate as your automobile's ABS computer kicks in to pulse them. Get ready to hold the brakes firmly and steer as you normally would.

If you don't have antilock brakes, pump the brakes so that you can control your vehicle. Slamming hard down on the brakes will cause skidding and potential for serious injury.

4. Steer with smooth movements. Steering jerkily will lead to skids.

5. Decide if you may need to speed up to get out of harm's way.

6. If you start to lose control, steer in the direction of the skid while keeping a firm grip on the steering wheel. Notice what direction the back of the car is headed. If it is sliding to the right, then turn your wheels to the right. Don't brake or accelerate until your tires have regained traction.

7. Avoid collisions if at all possible. and do your best to control the speed of your car. Remember -- the faster the speed, the higher the impact will be.
